Volunteer/Project Coordinator, Northern Greece

We are currently seeking a new volunteer Volunteer/Project Coordinator to our operation in Northern Greece, Nea Kavala refugee camp where we run various projects such as distribution, informal language training and social activities.

Responsibilities

  • The Volunteer/Project Coordinator of Nea Kavala refugee camp is responsible for A Drop in the Ocean´s overall volunteer management. This include induction, training, mentoring and follow-up on volunteer staff; both residents, local field workers and international field workers.
  • Project management related to various on-going projects at the location, inclusive of proposals and set-up of new projects.

Tasks

  • Training, mentoring and supervision of all field workers
  • Recruiting of volunteer team leaders
  • Project Management:
    • Writing project proposals for new projects, and for those approved, establish framework and plan for implementation of the new project.
    • Daily running and maintenance of existing projects.
    • Quarterly evaluation of projects.
  • Participating in weekly team meetings with coordinators on site
  • On behalf of the organisation, take part in meetings under the direction of UNHCR/military/camp management/donors/other NGOs etc
  • Through activities on social media, contribute to knowledge regarding the organisation´s work at the location

Qualifications

  • University education
  • Good leadership skills and experience from working with multicultural teams
  • Experienced and good references from working within the humanitarian sector, preferable in refugee camps
  • Service minded, good communication skills and experienced with problem solving
  • Fluent in English, preferable knowledge of Greek, Farsi and/or Arabic
  • Experienced within Project management

All Coordinators with A Drop in the Ocean contribute on volunteer basis, and are travelling on their own responsibility, and must be able to contribute for at least 4 months.  A Drop in the Ocean cover travel expenses, telephone, rental car and housing. A valid driver’s license is necessary to be considered as a Coordinator. The organisation covers personal expenses up to € 400 on a monthly basis. All field workers of the organisation must be above the age of 25 and have to provide with a valid police certificate. Insurance including travel and health is mandatory for all field workers.

Site Coordinators

Because the Covid-19 situation made us withdraw from our locations with many international field workers in March, we have been present with a small team of coordinators on the Greek mainland. We are now in the process of planning our re-entry to support displaced people stuck in Greece, and are seeking qualified site coordinators to some of our locations in Greece. Our site coordinators reports to our Operations Coordinator Greece based in Greece.

Responsibilities

Our Site Coordinators are responsible for A Drop in the Ocean´s overall activities at the location. This include managing volunteer staff, logistics, finances, overseeing projects and activities inside and outside of refugee camps. The site coordinators will also be responsible for risk assessments and needs assessments related to re-entry, new projects and activities.

Tasks

  • Training, mentoring and 1:1 supervision of present coordinators
  • Weekly team meetings with coordinators
  • Exit conversation with leaving Coordinators and volunteers
  • Reporting to Head Quarter in Norway and to donors
  • Keeping the financial situation at location in line with budget
  • On behalf of the organisation, take part in meetings under the direction of UNHCR/military/camp management/donors/other NGOs etc
  • Maintain an overview of available equipment and donations belonging to the organisation
  • Through activities on social media, contribute to knowledge regarding the organisation´s work at the location
  • In charge of preparedness, safety of staff and HSE at the location

Qualifications

  • University education
  • Experienced leader with excellent references from running and being in charge of operations within the humanitarian sector in Greece working with displaced people inside and near refugee camps.
  • Good leadership skills and experience from working with multicultural teams
  • Service minded, good communication skills and experienced with problem solving
  • Fluent in English, knowledge of Greek and being able to understand and be understood, preferable knowledge of Arabic
  • Experienced within project management
  • Criminal record check is required

All site coordinators with A Drop in the Ocean contribute on volunteer basis, and are travelling on their own responsibility, and must be able to contribute for at least 6 months.  A Drop in the Ocean covers travel expenses, telephone, rental car and housing. A valid international driver’s license is necessary to be considered as a Site Coordinator. The organisation covers personal expenses up to € 400 on a monthly basis the first five months. From the 6th month of the assignment, €500 will be reimbursed.

Mentor/Rådgiver for koordinatorer

Til en hver tid har vi omtrent 15 koordinatorer i Hellas, og som mentor vil du ha 1:1 samtaler med koordinatorene våre annenhver uke. Fokusområdet vil være koordinatorenes psykiske og fysiske helse, ulike utfordringer de møter på i hverdagen og hvordan disse kan løses.

Kvalifikasjoner:

  • Erfaring fra arbeid som psykolog, mentor og/eller coach
  • God relasjonsbygger med evne til å lytte
  • Serviceorientert
  • Evne til å bidra med løsninger til krevende situasjoner
  • Meget gode engelskkunnskaper

Det er ønskelig med erfaring som feltarbeider med Dråpen i Havet.

Terapeuter

Vi ønsker å komme i kontakt med terapeuter som har anledning til å bistå som frivillig ved behov for debrief-samtaler med våre feltarbeidere, enten ved akutt behov, eller etter at de har kommet hjem fra feltarbeid. Samtalene foregår på Skype og det er en forutsetning at man behersker engelsk muntlig flytende. Vi mener følgende bakgrunn er relevant for slike oppdrag: politi/brannvesen/paramedic eller psykolog/psykiater/terapeut. Det er en fordel med erfaring fra debriefing, krisehåndtering og møte med mennesker som er traumatiserte, utbrent eller har opplevd en svært krevende situasjon.
