Available field assignments 

ENGLISH TEACHER, GREECE

We are currently seeking a motivated individual for the position of English teacher in Nea Kavala refugee camp or in Athens community center of A Drop in the Ocean.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Teach English language classes per the refugee student population needs in Nea Kavala refugee camp or in Athens community center of A Drop in the Ocean
  • Create and expand Non-Formal Educational language curriculum, targeting and addressing the needs of the students
  • Manage, monitor and evaluate the implementation of project components

Preferred Competence and Qualifications

  • University degree in Education
  • Firm understanding of formal and informal education within challenging, humanitarian settings
  • Demonstrated history in teaching, vocational and life-skills development
  • Passionate advocate for education for all

How to apply

To become a fieldworker you must:

  • Be 23 years old or older
  • Commit for at least 4 weeks (some locations and projects can accept shorter periods of volunteering)
  • Provide us with a criminal record certificate
  • Send us proof of insurance (public or private) and the name and number of insurance provider
  • Provide us with a copy of your passport
  • Send us your CV and the contact details of two references
  • Complete our online training
  • Accept and follow our guidelines
  • Be prepared for long and unpredictable, but also interesting and meaningful days in the field

Important information

  • It is important to us that you have a meaningful stay that corresponds with your expectations. All potential field workers must be interviewed by our operations coordinators. We also require that you provide us with two personal references we can contact. In this way, we ensure that every involved party has a good experience.
  • Our information hub Mobilise will be accessible for all approved candidates. In Mobilise you can find useful information about what to do before your assignment begins, accommodation tips, recommended packing list, and much more.
  • We use our funds where it is mostly needed and require that our field workers cover all costs related to their assignment. A Drop in the Ocean is not responsible for assistance on financial matters, but it is possible to get reimbursement for all field workers. You can apply for reimbursement limited to 250 EUR per month for personal costs such as accommodation, rental car, and transport, with a maximum of five receipts for each month if you commit to 30 hours a week. Reimbursement is only available if you participate for four weeks or longer.
  • If you wish to teach but cannot commit to 30 hours a week, kindly let us know in you application how many hours you can teach for.

If you live outside of Greece, you have to follow your country’s travel advise, and take this into consideration before applying (for Visa issues, the successful candidate should contact in advance the Greek Embassy of their country). A Drop in the Ocean does not support potential candidates in Visa applications.

EDUCATION COORDINATOR, ATHENS, GREECE

We are currently seeking a motivated individual for the position of Education Coordinator for the operation of Non-Formal Educational projects owned/run by A Drop in the Ocean in Athens.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Teach Greek language classes per the refugee student population needs
  • Create and expand Non-Formal Educational language curriculum, targeting and addressing the needs of the students
  • Maintenance and overview of all educational projects operated on site (English, Greek and Computer Literacy)
  • Manage, monitor and evaluate the implementation of project components (English, Greek and Computer Literacy)
  • Establish and maintain routines for the all educational projects(English, Greek and Computer Literacy)
  • Identify partners, find collaborators and potential donors for educational activities/projects on site
  • Training and development of volunteer teachers involved in the respective projects
  • Weekly reporting to SC and, when requested, Head of Programmes Greece (HoP)
  • Regular meeting with community and international volunteers, teachers and others involved in each educational project on site
  • Take part in relevant working group meetings with collaborators and partners.
  • Any other relevant tasks as requested by SC/HoP

Qualifications

  • University degree in Education
  • Firm understanding of formal and informal education within challenging, humanitarian settings
  • Experience from educational programming (preferably in the humanitarian field)
  • Experience from humanitarian organisations, field work (refugee camps) and educational programming preferred experience
  • Demonstrated history in teaching, vocational and life-skills development 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the refugee/humanitarian context in Greece
  • Passionate advocate for education for all
  • Excellent command in English and Greek. Any other context relevant languages (i.e. Farsi/Arabic/Pashto/Dari) are considered an advantage

The Education Coordinator will work full-time in Athens, Greece.

All Coordinators with A Drop in the Ocean are travelling on their own responsibility, and must be able to contribute for at least 3 months.  The successful candidate will be hired on a Greek contract for three months with the possibility of extension. A valid driver’s license is necessary to be considered as a Coordinator. All field workers of the organisation must be above the age of 25 and have to provide with a valid police certificate. Insurance including travel and health is mandatory for all field workers.

LOGISTICS COORDINATOR, NEA KAVALA, GREECE

We are currently seeking a motivated individual for the position of Logistics Coordinator to manage A Drop in the Ocean´s overall logistics at the location of Nea Kavala.

Responsibilities

  • Management of A Drop in the Ocean´s overall logistics at destination, such as warehouse and distribution, including planning and sourcing of food items and NFI (non-food-items) to meet the needs of residents of the camp
  • Management of DropShop / Market at the destination
  • Sourcing items for projects at destination and ensure that they run smoothly

Tasks

  • Overview of needs for supply at destination
  • Sourcing / procurement of donations
  • Receive donations for use in DiH distribution-projects at location
  • Tracking delivery of donations
  • Providing evidence of implementation of donated items to donors (pictures)
  • Securely store donations 
  • Return/recycle excess stock
  • Meeting and training of volunteers in warehouse and distribution areas such as DropShop
  • Maintenance of warehouse security and cleanliness
  • Operation of DropShop/Market preferably inside camp
  • Superior to the Market Manager/Warehouse Assistant
  • Making sure Boxtribute (database)and any other data collection used (Excel on Teams) at all times is updated for the destination and that it is GDPR compliant
  • When requested conduct needs assessments related to distribution in/outside camp
  • Daily report to Site Coordinator
  • Responsible for projects/activities at the location may be relevant. In such cases:
  • Ensure that M&E plans for each project of relevance are up to date
  • Collecting (qualitative and quantitative) data from each project to be able to evaluate relevant projects at the location

Qualifications 

  • University degree in Business Administration, supply chain management or a related field and/or
  • 6-month Experience and within supply chain management and warehouse management
  • 6-month Experience of donation procurement
  • Understanding of database/spreadsheet management and maintenance
  • Fluent in English, preferable with knowledge of Greek (knowledge of a language such as Farsi/Dari, French, Arabic, Somali would be an asset)
  • Good collaboration and team work abilities
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the refugee/humanitarian context in Greece
  • Service minded and experience with problem solving

The Logistics Coordinator will work full-time in Nea Kavala (Kilkis-Greece).

All Coordinators with A Drop in the Ocean are travelling on their own responsibility, and must be able to contribute for at least 3 months.  The successful candidate will be hired on a Greek contract for three months with the possibility of extension. A valid driver’s license is necessary to be considered as a Coordinator. All field workers of the organisation must be above the age of 25 and have to provide with a valid police certificate. Insurance including travel and health is mandatory for all field workers. 

If you have the right qualifications and are interested in being considered as our Logistics Coordinator in Greece, you should be able to start the assignment no later than 20th April. SITE/LOGISTICS COORDINATOR, BOSNIA HERZEGOVINA

We are currently seeking a Site /Logistics Coordinator for our operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (based in Sarajevo). The Site/Logistics Coordinator is responsible for A Drop in the Ocean´s overall activities at the relevant location/in the refugee camp and logistics at the location, including sourcing and distribution activities. 

Application deadline: May 10th 2022. 

Applications are considered on a rolling basis. Successful candidates will be called for interviews as soon as possible.

Tasks

  • Training, mentoring and supervision 1:1 on weekly basis of present coordinators at the location, Weekly team meetings with Coordinators on site 
  • Regular reporting to HQ
  • Finances and keeping the financial situation at location in line with budget
  • Administrative tasks such as implementation and follow up of DiH routines in general and for the location
  • Represent the organization on site level, and together with relevant coordinator in charge, take part in meetings under the direction of UNHCR/military/camp management/other NGOs etc. SL 
  • Preparedness, emergency and evacuation, including managing drills and training
  • Keep an overview of needs for supply, and make sure we at all times have what is needed at the location  
  • Call for necessary donations and finding suppliers
  • Receive donations (unpacking, sorting, labeling, packing)
  • Maintenance of security and cleanliness where our supplies are kept
  • Sorting of food and non-food items: e.g. clothes, fabric, hygiene items

Qualifications

  • University education
  • Experienced project manager
  • Experience from humanitarian organisations, field work and volunteer management in particular 
  • Good leadership skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and service minded
  • Experience with problem solving
  • Experience within logistics such as supply chain management as well as warehouse management 
  • Experience in or knowledge of donation procurement. 
  • Good knowledge of database/spreadsheet management and maintenance
  • Fluent in English,  knowledge of Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian is an advantage
  •  Project management and team leading skills
  • Experience from humanitarian work, primarily from areas in crisis is valuable

COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR GREECE 

We are currently seeking a motivated individual for the position of Communications Coordinator to lead the external communications on projects and programmes in Greece as well to build on the established DiH advocacy network.

Responsibilities 

  • Supervise content creation and management of DiH social media and website in cooperation with all Locations Teams and Head Office Communication & Fundraising Team (Norway)
  • Implementing DiH 2022 advocacy strategy on migration issues in Greece
  • Building DiH advocacy network and expanding relations with humanitarian advocates, human rights defenders as well as media and policy-makers strategically to the established advocacy goals
  • Supervising DiH media and public relations in Greece in close collaboration with Head of Programmes
  • Leading and advising DiH public communications and public positioning on matters of migration policy in Greece in close collaboration with Director of Operations
  • Representing DiH before partner stakeholders in the humanitarian advocacy network, leading DiH own advocacy agenda and initiatives according to the established goals in migration policy change

Qualifications 

  • University degree in Communications & Media science, Journalism, Political Science, International Relations and/or
  • Previous experience on humanitarian communications roles, media and/or journalism
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the refugee/humanitarian context in Greece
  • Good interpersonal skills and service-oriented
  • Experienced with problem solving
  • Excellent writing and editorial skills in English and good command of Greek is an asset
  • Excellent knowledge of IT skills- MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)-including social media platforms

 The Communications Coordinator Greece will work full-time in Greece (remote) and will be requested to travel to all locations where DiH operates.

All Coordinators with A Drop in the Ocean are travelling on their own responsibility, and must be able to contribute for at least 3 months.  The successful candidate will be hired on a Greek contract for three months with the possibility of extension. A valid driver’s license is necessary to be considered as a Coordinator. All field workers of the organisation must be above the age of 25 and have to provide with a valid police certificate. Insurance including travel and health is mandatory for all field workers. 

If you have the right qualifications and are interested in being considered as our next Communications Coordinator in Greece, you should be able to start the assignment no later than 28th March.
