Female Forward

Female Forward Project at Nea Kavala, Northern Greece by Dråpen i Havet / A Drop in the Ocean and its partner SolidarityNow.

The project Female Forward is being implemented under the Bilateral Fund of the “Asylum & Migration” programme in Greece, by Dråpen i Havet / A Drop in the Ocean (DiH) and its partner SolidarityNow. The “Asylum and Migration” (Addressing urgent needs for the reception and screening of asylum seekers and for the accommodation of vulnerable groups) programme in Greece, financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, was awarded a total budget of 16,5 million euros as part of the EEA Grants 2014 – 2021.

The program aspires to contribute to ensuring legal protection, support and care for the most vulnerable asylum seekers, with emphasis on unaccompanied children. The Fund Operator for the “Asylum and Migration” programme in Greece is SOL Consulting S.A in partnership with HumanRights360.

This collaborative work seeks to strengthen the existing partnership and boost the cooperation between Dråpen i Havet / Drop in the Ocean (DiH) and SolidarityNow(SN) at Nea Kavala Camp in Northern Greece. Both organisations are dedicated to aiding people on the move, focusing on vulnerable women and children.

The community engagement activities aim to empower women and adolescent girls. This empowerment is fostered through skill-building sessions, recreational activities, awareness sessions on gender-based violence (GBV), informative discussions covering various topics such as female health, women’s rights, and child protection, along with informational sessions and training programs designed to facilitate the integration of women into the labour market.

The objectives include:

a) Facilitating the exchange of expertise and dissemination of information through joint study visits involving experts from Greece and Norway.

b) Exchanging best practices concerning community engagement and the assimilation of female asylum seekers and refugees residing in refugee camps/sites.

c) Undertaking joint community engagement and support activities tailored to women asylum seekers and refugees, explicitly emphasising the Nea Kavala/Polykastro camp in Northern Greece.
