The influxes of people who are trying to reach Europe through Greece continue. More specifically, a particularly large number of people have managed to cross the Greek borders, along with other nationalities who are trying to escape the difficulties they face in their home countries.

The situation in Northern Greece is currently changing with most refugee camps reaching their capacity. More specifically in the camp of Alexandria, there were about 200 official transfers in recent days, while the camp of Nea Kavala receives new beneficiaries as well. At the same time people who have been granted with the status of international protection or those whose request has been rejected, the Greek government no longer provides any financial assistance. All these population groups are in a precarious situation, as they cannot even meet their basic needs.

The DiH team that operates in the North continues its actions at the camp of Nea Kavala with unabated effort. In addition to that, Since the 12th of September and due to the aforementioned needs, the team started operating officially in Alexandria Camp as well.

Our two first distributions took place in Alexandria, with dry food packs and sleeping bags provided to the most vulnerable. A well-structured, humane and respectful approach in delivering door to door food packs to our beneficiaries was followed.

Our plan in Alexandria is to support the population with all our Humanitarian Aid distribution lines. This includes food (biweekly), sanitary pads(monthly), baby diapers(monthly), hygiene kits(3month) and newborn baby packs (ad hoc). In addition to these, our objective is to set up a DropShop space, where we also distribute clothes in a humane and dignified way by utilizing our expertise in the field and our online system (Boxtribute, another partner).

We would like to thank our main donors Christian Refugee Relief (CRR) and ChooseLove for supporting DiH efforts with food and non-food item shipments.
